The Alliance began sponsoring Manhunters Workshops in 2008. The workshops are offered to advance the skill levels of Search and Rescue K9 teams focusing on Area Search, Trailing, and Cadaver detection.
Instructors for the Manhunters Workshops are specifically chosen for their expertise, background, teaching ability, dedication, and their desire to help each student succeed.

Manhunters Workshop October 2010
|
In the fall of 2010 K-9 Alliance of Iowa held a Manhunters Workshop at Camp Hantesa in Boone, Iowa. Instructors were Deana Hudgins, Mike Weiderhold, Kevin Kocher, Randy Huckaby, Laura Denison, Rhonda Comegys and Chad Leadley. Once again, participation levels were up from the previous year but we still managed to keep the instructor/student ration down to a level that allowed all the teams to get a lot of good work in. Thank you to all the instructors for your great work and to the students who attended - we had people from more than 8 different states in the fields of law enforcement and search and rescue. We will be planning our next event right away!

Manhunters Workshop October 2009

The Fall 2009 Manhunters Workshop was a great success! Classes for cadaver and trailing were both full with all experience levels of both search and rescue and law enforcement personnel. Instructors were Randy Huckaby, Rob Burdess, Bob Thielen and Mike Weiderhold, along with our own Laura Denison and Rhonda Comegys. Students worked through many scenarios, day and night and the participant reviews were fantastic! We also had a special presentation from Dr. Tyler O'Brien, Assistant Professor of Anthropology from the University of Northern Iowa on Death, Decay and Resconstruction. Dr. O'Brien's instruction was very informative and well done-we appreciated his time and hope to have him back again sometime. Thank you to all who attended and special thanks to those who helped behind the scenes.

Instructors and students braved the rain and heat to participate in trailing and area search classes and night training that lasted past midnight.
Thank you to all of the helpers, handlers and trainers for making this workshop a success. The K-9 Alliance of Iowa is proud to be able to help facilitate training that will benefit so many dog teams.

Manhunters Workshop November 2008
|
The first ever Manhunters Workshop was held at Camp Hantesa in Boone, Iowa in November 2008. It was a huge success with more than 23 team participating in Area Search and Trailing classes. Participants came from 6 different teams, 5 different states with all skill levels.
Instructors and students all had a great time and learned a lot, braving the cold, wet weather and the rough terrain of the Ledges Park. Classes were held all day and into the night.
Thanks! We couldn't have done it without you!
A big thanks to staff and administrators of Camp Hantesa for their hospitality, acclamations and good food.
Also, thank you to those who volunteered to be subjects and brave the elements both day and night without complaint.
And finally, thank you to all of our helpers (you know who you are) who ran errands, answered questions, and helped maintain order.
